Is Your Drone Filming Legal?

Companies across the country have been quick to recognise the value and fascination of drone filming. The results can be amazing. Yet in this world where health and safety cover is so critical, it is bewildering how many organisations don’t check whether the professional filming companies they have hired in hold the correct certification to fly drones safely to protect people and property. Not only have they not considered the risks, but they are blissfully unaware of the far reaching consequences if injury, damage or interference with air traffic is caused.

No insurance company will provide cover for the costs of damage or personal claims for injury unless the drone operator has a CAA licence. Even with certification, specialist insurance needs to be set up to cover professional drone flying. The problem is, flying a drone is relatively easy and some filming companies can look very competent. But flying a drone ‘safely’ is an altogether different matter. So don’t get caught out. Check your filming company has your reputation and interests legally covered. And it doesn’t mean that they can’t still get beautiful shots to enhance their videos- as the video below produced by 2020 Media International demonstrates.
